Oekraïense universiteiten van Lviv en Charkov en NIPV gaan samenwerken op gebied van onderzoek voor brandweerzorg

Begin april ontving het NIPV professoren en onderzoekers van de Universiteiten van Lviv en Charkov voor een zogenoemde ‘exchange of experts’. Tijdens dit werkbezoek tekenden beide universiteiten een memorandum van overeenstemming met het NIPV om kennisuitwisseling rondom brandweerzorg te bevorderen.
Namens het NIPV bekrachtigde directeur IJle Stelstra de intentieverklaring met de Oekraïense universiteiten. Stelstra: “Voor ons is het eervol om de kennisuitwisseling met twee toonaangevende kennisinstituten op deze wijze te bevorderen. De Lviv State University of Life Safety werkt al nauw samen met het NIPV op het gebied van kennisdeling. Ook de Universiteit van Charkov staat bekend om onderzoek met modellen voor fire safety engineering, CBRNE (chemische, biologische, radiologische of nucleaire stoffen) en beschermende kleding.”
De samenwerking krijgt vorm door het bevorderen van kennisuitwisseling, deelname aan gezamenlijke activiteiten zoals cursussen, seminars en stages en ondersteuning van aanvragen voor internationale onderzoeksprojecten.
Versterking en verrijken
Ricardo Weewer, lector Brandweerkunde bij het NIPV, kijkt ook uit naar de verdere samenwerking, waarin vooral het delen van kennis centraal staat: “Zowel de universiteiten als het NIPV zijn bijvoorbeeld vooruitstrevend als het gaat om fire safety engineering, brandbestrijdingstechnieken en onderzoek naar beschermende kleding. Daarin kunnen we elkaar echt versterken. En op het gebied van onderzoek naar incidentbestrijding gevaarlijke stoffen zijn zij verder en kunnen ze ons juist verrijken.”
De komende tijd gaan de drie kennisinstituten gebruiken om de samenwerking vorm te geven.

In early April, NIPV welcomed professors and researchers from the Universities of Lviv and Kharkiv as part of an ‘exchange of experts’. During this working visit, the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding with NIPV to promote the exchange of know-how in relation to fire services.
Director IJle Stelstra, on behalf of NIPV, affirmed the statement of intent with the Ukrainian universities. Stelstra stated: “It’s an honour for us to promote the exchange of know-how with two leading knowledge institutions through this collaboration. The Lviv State University of Life Safety is already working closely with NIPV in the area of knowledge sharing. The University of Kharkiv is known for its research using models for fire safety engineering, CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials) and protective clothing.”
The collaboration will consist of promoting the exchange of know-how, participating in joint activities like courses, seminars and internships and supporting applications for international research projects.
Strengthening and enrichment
Ricardo Weewer, a professor of fire sciences at NIPV, is looking forward to further collaboration, primarily focusing on sharing knowledge. “For example, both the universities and NIPV are quite ambitious when it comes to things such as fire safety engineering, fire-fighting techniques and research into protective clothing. That’s where we can really strengthen each other. They are more advanced than we are in terms of research into combating incidents involving hazardous substances, which is an area where they can enrich our knowledge.”
The three knowledge institutes will spend the coming time fleshing out the form their collaboration will take.
